Day 52 - Rain Forest

Day 52 – Tuesday: August 06, 2013, miles ridden today: 197.0

Today we rode to the Hoh Rainforest in the Olympic National Park. A dense forest covered in thousands of brilliant shades of green. The total rainfall is sometimes 221 inches per year. As we rode the "Upper Hoh Road" parallel to the Hoh River we noted the teal color of the water, caused by the glacial sediment gathered as it travels from Mount Olympus to the Pacific Ocean.

Moving on south via Rt 101, in and out of the fog, with temperatures fluctuating between 58 and 80 °F, we stopped for lunch in Amanda Park, WA.

Proceeding along we fueled in what we thought was a depressing site, the town of Aberdeen, WA. Everything looked like it was had a dark mold appearance. Further along we passed through Oakville, WA. And it was like entering the twilight zone… old buildings literally falling apart, leaning buildings still in use like the hardware store pictured here, and new buildings built to look old juxtaposed with the old.

We finally wrapped up the day in Centrailia, WA. The view we had riding into town was the top of what we believe is Mount Rainier, sorry no pictures yet, tomorrow.
