George's GNA'13: Day 41 - Jasper NP with Chris V.W

Day 41 – Friday: July 26, 2013, miles ridden today: 239.0

Oh boy, today was one for the books!

Like I planned yesterday and relayed to Chris V.W., I was on schedule (Pacific Time) and on my way out of the campground stopped by a pay phone to call Chris. Standing there cussing under my breath due to my difficulty getting this Telus phone to accept my credit card (they use a much more modern credit card system up here than we do n the states), a white motorcycle pulls up behind me and parks. This fellow gets off and OMG, it’s Chris. He rode 2 hours from Edson, rode around this huge campground looking for me and here I was at the exit. Almost missed each other! To top it off, he rode 980 km or 615 miles today.

We went into town, had breakfast and then it was on the Parks Hwy for the most awesome scenery. What a ride we went on, I hope the pictures tell some of the story – SPECTACULAR!!!

We rode to Lake Louise, AB and said our good-bye, and I was off to Banff.

Stopping at the visitor center for assistance in locating a campsite, I was told there was none to be had. Andy, the ranger helping me, wanted to talk about his motorcycles rather then help me with a campsite. So I left and per his advice headed east to Canmore to hopefully find a spot there. I entered the highway, and immediately exited. My thought was, just go to the gate and ask if there are any available sites, I did, and got me a fantastic campsite on Tunnel Mtn Campground for $8.90. WOW!

Once setup, showered, I went into town for dinner. Upon my return, put all the smelly stuff in the bear can and move it away from the tent. Bear warnings were everywhere and the rangers were coming by to remind us of the need to take precautions.
