Day 55 - Heading Home (at least in the general direction)

Day 55 – Friday: August 09, 2013, miles ridden today: 301.0

The day began this morning at 0500, Walter had to catch a shuttle to the airport, and me had to catch a few more winks. Actually I was waiting around for Tourtech-USA, distributor of Gear, Parts & Accessories for Adventure Motorcycle Touring Motorcycles like my own R1200GSA.

I rode to the Seattle address, located Tourtech and rode around looking for a Starbuck’s. This is a rough, heavy industrial side of town and I located a Tully’s Coffee shop in front of its corporate headquarters. I think they share the facilities with Kim’s favorite Beer Rainer Breweries. Latte’ was excellent, Oatmeal so-so…

After doing my business at Tourtech I headed for Olympia, WA to visit Gerbings, a manufacturer of Heated Apparel; I have a jacket and gloves made by them. During the trip my temperature control just caught on everything, so I purchased the components to hard wire it into the motorcycle. Another project for later…

Along the way I rode up to Gig Harbor (always thought name was unique) that took me across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. I experienced a drastic weather change of 12°F and fog from one side to the other.

Upon leaving Olympia I said to myself, “now where”. Evergreen Aerospace Museum was my new destination. I got there too late to go inside, so decided to find a nearby campsite or lodge and tour the museum Saturday. Well there was none to be had so I headed for the coast via Route 18. The RV’ers have it all wrapped up, no Tenting, I tried a half dozen places and gave up using the Garmin. I just kept my eyes peeled for a suitable place to pull off and camp. About 12 miles from the coast I found one in Otis, OR. It was kind of “skuzzy”, but had clean bathroom and shower, and it was $10.

It really belongs in Long Beach, CA - a Hughes Aircraft creation...

Closest place to eat was up the highway a bit at a place called the Roadhouse, a local hangout with jukebox blasting, and the valleys finest holding court at the bar. Again the appearance left something to be desired, but the food was good.

Campsite in Otis, OR

One of the major industries here in the WA / OR area is logging. Piles of logs, tucks, sawmills are everywhere.

Back to camp and called it a day rather early, 8 PM.
