Day 2

Day2 - June 17, 2013, 479.0 Miles Travelled Today

Woke up to a nippy 39°F, and just past Winniemucca, NV it reached 94°F. A very warm day, felt humid too.
Left camp at 7AM, stopped off at MONO LAKE and was too early, they didn't open till 8 o/c. Oh well, been here before, Winnie and I paddled the lake in our Kayaks; just want to visit as many National Parks as I can this trip.

Headed East on 163 past the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the largest national forest in the lower 48 states. Pretty, especialy this early in the morning.
Coming down into Hawthorne, NV you see thousands (actually 3,000) of warehouse buildings which make up the Hawthorne Army Depot, which stores, fabricates, and demilitarization ammunition. There is an establishment called Kitty's or as I was told some call it the Kitty Kat, and I do not think for a moment he was talking about a cat refuge. There is some legal businesses here that isn't elsewhere... two unusual industries, but there isn't much else here. What a bleak place!

Finished off the day looking for a camp site in Elko, NV. No way, all the RV Parks exclude tents, riding on I found two RV/Camp Parks, one which there was no host, so I moved on, next just closed period. So, Motel 6 it is, they left the lights on for me. I'm tired...

Tomorrow, hopefully Missoula, MT.
