HOSTELING

To date I’ve stay at Hostels in:
  • Whitehorse, YT
  • McCarthy, AK
  • Juneau, AK
  • Haines, AK
  • Sitka, AK
  • Monterey, CA

My report on Hostels in general and last night’s accommodations is that this is a fabulous hostel with a great common area and spacious kitchen, though I did not use it. Dorm rooms good, mine the Big Sur (7) Bunk Beds, I think I was the only native (English speaking). Bathroom & showers were spotless. Great location easily could walk to shops and restaurants, and the famous MB Aquarium, of course Cannery Row too. Monterey is currently in a drought and the hostel is combating this with (2) 4-min shower tokens, which I found more than adequate. Only downside it’s closed for a while during the day when they clean it, but this is true for all of them, and they close the entry at 10 PM. This caused me a problem last night when I spoke to Winnie on the phone outside, had to get back inside before I was locked out. I’d stay here again on my next motorcycle trip. A lesson learnt is I’ll defiantly research this option (Hostels) and do a better job planning next time to relive the daily angst of finding lodging or camping.

TODAY’s EVENTS

Breakfast at my favorite – Starbucks this morning.

Walter's Old Hangout
There are lots of vintage and rare automobiles running around here, it’s Monterey Car Week, and of course the famous Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday. I was behind a ’47 Bugatti going through a gauntlet of photographers and none were paying attention to me until I said something, then it as flash city with me being the subject… well just for a moment when they realized I was not neither Ewan McGregor of Charley Bormann.

Oh Otter, where art thou?

You Are Not an Otter!
Water is Crystal Clear

Not even a real Butterfly

So I had a relaxing day spent hanging around, taking a ride up to Laguna Sea Raceway, and over to Carmel Valley, then Carmel-by-the-Sea, then went to same Starbucks for an afternoon treat and to await the LA Gang. I heard from Ken several times today:
  • 06:00 AM leaving Starbuck’s
  • 08:35 AM having a bite to eat in Santa Barbara
  • 11:22 AM leaving Santa Maria
  • 04:42 PM arrived in Monterey, CA
Upon Ken & Greg's arrival we sat around nursing a couple of Starbucks concoctions, then went to dinner at Giavanni's. Having some traditional pasta dishes, Greg complimented it with a nice bottle of wine.

Then we found affordable quarters in Salinas, 20-miles east of Monterey and at 50% cost. So, I bid you goodnight,
